Elle King Interview

I entered my interview with Elle King not quite knowing what to expect, the loud I don’t care American attitude I had seen in her music left me feeling a little nervous. I could not have been more wrong, she was oozing with energy with a softness that came from being a little homesick touring the world on a bus full of guys. When talking about her experience on the UK leg she’s quick to name Brighton as the best crowd so far; ‘I felt like shit the whole day and those I’ve learned are always the best shows, I think we’re all still pretty hungover from Brighton’.

Her debut album ‘Love Stuff’ is a mix of influences with Elle noting she draws a lot of her inspiration from relationships ‘I usually just kind of leave that s**t in the past so I can constantly be dating new people, I’ve only been dumped once and I wrote the song ‘It’s good to be a man’ which allowed me to put a funny spin on stuff and help me get over feeling hurt. I never give anyone the chance to hurt me again’. Elle’s personality is something to be envied by a girl who has never fully grasped the concept of control in a relationship, ‘I would be terrible and write songs about how terrible I was, and then I would leave guys’. She jokes about her one long term relationship as the ‘worst thing that’s ever happened to me’ and I can’t help but wish I could be as confident in myself.

Her UK tour supporting James Bay has been going since the 22nd of September and she played a few festivals including Reading and Leeds ‘ I was so tired and mad my sweet tour manager came into my room and was like come on Elle it's an hour to the show and I was all 'Fuck this Shit' but I walked on stage at Leeds and it was one of my favourite shows of the summer it’s just one of those things. Festivals have this crazy wonderful, Magic-ness to them’.

Head to toe in tattoos I couldn’t help but wonder what it all meant ‘Most of them I just wake up with. The one on my hand is the one that really matters to me, it says ‘Little one’ and I got it when my grandmother passed away, I look down at it and see that and it just makes me feel good. As a band we tend to get tour tattoos and this one is ‘have a good time all the time’ so I’ll probably get that in Dublin.’ There’s an essence of life in Elle King that I have never seen in anyone before, she has a gumption that almost blew me away yet she still managed to be crazy sweet – in short her debut album Love Stuff is available everywhere, freakin buy it here.

Back to Black (and blue)

Trousers & Top//Urban Outfitters
Shoes//Birkenstock
Bag//Clarks
Coat//Primark

I have been out of posts for a little while as I got on with working and planning for my hols but with the help of my 12 year old sister behind the camera I managed to do some back garden blogging. I have worn these trousers and this coat before on my blog and the shoes have been instagrammed umpteen times but they are such goodies for an unpredictable english summer. V light weight and not too colourful, just what we like.

Hopefully I will be updating much more as the evenings stay sunny and I have time to change out of my walking boots (I work at a hiking shop) and into my sandals.

Barcelona

So if you follow me on instagram you may already know I just returned from 4 days in Barcelona! It is one of the most beautiful and simultaneously boiling places I have ever been in my life, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Despite panting for oxygen in a busy metro station at least 3 times a day, it was all worthwhile for the ease of travel around the city. For 25 euros we got a 4 day pass which took us everywhere we wanted at super speed, including the Font Majic - Magic Fountain pictured above which had escalators to the top thank god.

Another highlight of the trip was Cruilla festival, something we found out about after seeing a poster when having dinner in the main square one night. We booked tickets the next day and arrived at 7pm Friday night not sure what to expect. One of the greatest things about the festival was the cashless system where you uploaded money onto a chip in your wristband meaning you didn't have to take cash or card with you and could just pay with the band itself. Kendrick Lemar was the headliner for Friday night and although I was apprehensive I have to say he was one of the best live acts I have ever seen! Maybe it was the men walking round filling up my beer cup or the temperature, or the fact it was all set right next to a beach but there was such a peaceful vibe you don't often get with English festivals.

I didn't do much proper outfit blogging just because it was so hot and most of the time I was in the same linen dress, but there were some dress up evening opportunities and stripes were clearly a theme.

I can only apologise for not posting in two months, life has been rather uninteresting in the run up to my hols. I'm at a festival this weekend then off to Amsterdam for a few days so I shall be sure to document.

Turning 20 and Turning Grey

Evertyhing i'm wearing is Whistles, oops,

Haloo so I have been off here for a little bit as I got into the easter grind of working and travelling back and forth from uni and home - cry. But in my absence, I have had a birthday, a 4 hour stint in the hairdressers and a trip to Paris! I bought this cute new jumpsuit from work recently even though my heart tells me it's just too nice not to wear all summer long as well, so I imagine there will be much more of it to see HERE.

I have now turned the ripe old age of 20 and although I do feel more or less exactly the same, there's something v sad about leaving my teen years behind. I think the cultural trip to Paris confirmed for me I was growing up since the last time I had been out of the country was on a gals holiday to Ayia Napa in 2013. That said i'm still visiting my friend in Kavos this summer so how cultured have I really become? I have spent a lot of my teen years doing incredibly stupid things, to which all of my friends can vouch for so I think coming out of them is a bit of a relief, i'm surprised to have made it in one piece.

The trip was filled with soo much amazing stuff and i'm very glad I got to visit Paris before all of my uni friends jet off to far away places and leave me to 3rd year all by myself. If anyone is planning a short summer trip I highly recommend, we booked an apartment with Air BnB which was super cheap and stayed in Pigalle the sex filled, Moulin Rouge area of Paris. All in all it was a lovely 3 days, and I can't believe its over and April is upon us.

My Instagram is filled with Parisian gloriousness - you can follow that by clicking the right hand tab. But in case you missed it here's a little bit more;

London Fashion Weekend

This post was supposed to be in HD actual camera - not just Iphone realness. However of course with me being me, the new Payday camera that I bought didn't work and I have only got round to exchanging it today. I can only apologise for poor image quality and excessive vsco cam editing, but whats a gal to do.

Anyhoo on Sunday I was lucky enough to head off to the final day of fashion weekend in London at the beautiful Somerset House, thank god it stayed sunny until the very end otherwise it would have been a much less bubbly day. I didn't actually get invited to the event and I wasn't front row, it's only little me after all! but my stepmum got free tickets that she won at work and thank god she did because the day was fabulous.

We got a goodie bag, I subscribed to Elle Magazine - more goodie bags, I met the lovely people from House of Sunny and splurged on their new range and had an all round lovely time. We also saw a show, the last one of the day- from which I include some shoddy angled heavily edited photos.

The show was sponsored or hosted by the outnet.com which in a nutshell is a website that sells designer clothes. It followed the themes, Floral embellishment, Shimmer and Shine, Monochrome, and 70's all of which i'm very excited to see in SS15. I did try on some flares in topshop recently, I didn't hate them but I don't know if I could be won over to the 70's that easily. It seems more likely I will be taking what I wore in winter and cutting the sleeves off.

Sleeveless rollnecks are in right? I hope so.

I hope from now me and my camera will be providing some better output, time will tell.

Kisses

p.s There were no photos where I wasn't laughing like a loon, I guess it makes a change from looking aimlessly at the floor

Black and Blue

Coat//Primark
Jumper//Whistles
Jeans//Topshop
Trainers//Adidas
BackPack//Whistles
Watch//American Apparel

I got a new bag in the Whistles sale and it's fair to say i'm in love. It was reduced from £395 so who am I to say no to that?? Also this blue jacket is Primark sale!! Who knew it could get any cheaper! The end of January is always the best time to bag a bargain at the final clearance sales so I have been trying my best to make the most of them everywhere I can (the watch is a sale piece too).

You may think you have seen the jeans trainers combo on my last post, and you would be right. But I would rather be an outfit repeater than an outfit rememberer.

Yorrk Fun

How beautifuuuuuuul is york?? Everything about it is so homely and cosy and cute I just can't deal. After lots of time working and the dreaded thought of returning to University on Monday we figured we would have a fun day out somewhere close by. I have to admit I did get a little carried away in the shops and spent probably 10 times more than my friends but it's okay because it was all worth it. I picked up this lil jumper in the Whistles sale, it's super soft and comfy and just the right length for my mom jeans, huzzah.

Hope you appreciate the pic of me and Bea loling, that's pretty much how the whole day was spent.

Can we just note that i've done two posts in three days, congrats Libby, congrats.
